Vicodin is a combination of Hydrocodone, a narcotic pain medication, and Acetaminophen (Tylenol).  The two medications have an additive effect, meaning they are better at relieving pain together than either one of them is individually.  Hydrocodone can be habit forming and should not be taken without orders from a doctor.

Ibuprofen and Acetaminophen

The maximum daily dose for ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) is 3200mg and for acetaminophen (Tylenol) is 4000mg.  Do not exceed these amounts within a 24 hour period and if you are taking anywhere near these amounts for a number of consecutive days, make sure to consult a physician or, if for tooth pain, see your dentist.
