Has your hygienist ever asked you about the mole on your nose, cheek, ear, etc?
As hygienists, we are in a perfect position to point out suspicious skin lesions to our patients. We sit inches away from you to do our work and can’t help but notice lesions on your faces, necks or arms.
We are prevention specialists and have have long ago realized that prevention does not apply only to oral health. A healthy mouth contributes to systemic health.
What to watch for: A mole or other growth that has any of the ABCD properties (Asymmetry; uneven or irregular Border; Color changes; Diameter larger than the width of a pencil eraser) or all of the EFG properties (Elevated above the skin surface; Firm to the touch; Growing)
Ask your hygienist if they notice anything out of the ordinary. Please visit www.skincheck.org for more content. #DentalHygiene #TheMoreYouKnow
